Born and raised in the UK, I graduated with an MEng Honours degree in Materials Science from the University of Oxford. With a strong academic record, I am well-grounded in the key elements of applied Chemistry, Physics, and Maths. I also understand the tools and techniques required to succeed in examinations and applications up to this level, including 11+ and 13+ common entrance exams.
I have experience tutoring international school students in science and mathematics, following the UK Curriculum, in Hong Kong. Prior to this, I supported Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) activities in a school environment as part of The Flying Start Challenge. This competition was designed for students in Years 7 to 9 and focused on teaching the fundamentals of flight and assisting groups with their project work. During these experiences, I taught in front of large classes and provided support to smaller groups.
Additionally, I have taught English as a foreign language to adults. In this role, I prepared lesson materials, marked homework, and reviewed answers in class. One of the challenges I faced was preparing material that catered to the different levels of English within the class.
Motivating and passing on my knowledge in subjects I am passionate about gives me great joy. When tutoring, I focus on filling in the gaps in students' knowledge, assessing their strengths and learning styles, and tailoring my teaching approach to their specific needs.
I strongly believe that developing important soft skills at a young age through extracurricular activities is crucial when transitioning from a learning environment to the world of employment. In my tutoring role, I can also provide pastoral support based on my own experiences inside and outside of the education system. Read less

An approach I find to be most helpful to students, especially when outside of a school environment, is based on question-prompting. This approach aims to encourage students to critically think, ask questions, and gain knowledge from their observations. Utilizing various methods and media to repeat a question related to key concepts also aids in the student's ability to memorize these concepts. Read less
